Continuing our time in the Night Lands we spent some time with the wonderful King of Grammar @King_Stannis
A
friend of mine on my personal account re-tweeted something by one of
the Tyrion accounts at the time, I followed that one and so found out
that parody/RP accounts were a thing. Stannis was my favourite
character and I noticed that there didn't seem to be an active
Stannis account, so I decided to have a go and the rest is history.
Why
did you pick your character?
As
above, Stannis has been my favourite character since I first got into
GoT/ASOIAF so he was the logical choice. It also works well that he
and I share some traits (grammar pedantry, for a start) so it seemed
a natural fit.
What
do you love the most about being your character on Twitter?
The
interactions with my followers, they're what makes this whole thing
fun. I love it when someone sends me a Stannis meme, or a GIF, or a
quote, or just their view on what he'd done in that week's episode
that I can respond to or RT or whatever. I do notice that I have a
few very dedicated fans who interact with me quite a lot, and I thank
them for that.
Favourite
character and episode?
Aside
from Stannis, my favourite character in the books and the show was
Oberyn Martell. As for a favourite episode I'd probably have to go
with either Blackwater or The Rains Of Castamere. Blackwater was so
epic in scale that I think it really set the bar for the HUGE episode
9 every year, and The Rains Of Castamere was great because we finally
got to see one of the most anticipated parts of the book, and they
did a great job with it.
How
has the Twitter community reacted to your character?
They've
reacted amazingly. More
so
than I ever thought would be the case. At time of writing this I
have just under 12,000 followers which, to my knowledge, makes mine
the most followed Stannis account on Twitter which I think is cool.
Of course there have been times where the account has gotten
some...interesting...feedback, particularly after a certain episode
last year when my notifications exploded with abuse in all kinds of
languages and forms. I guess it was a way for people to vent their
feelings at what happened in the show, and it was all part of the fun
for me. To all my followers I say thank you, and I encourage you to
keep interacting and giving me things to work with. Stannis may be
gone from the show, but I'm not going anywhere.
How
do you feel about the Season Six opening episode?
I
enjoyed the first episode overall - it worked well as a reminder to
viewers of where we left off and who is doing what, although I was
disappointed by the decision to (literally) kill off the bulk of the
Dornish storyline. I've always had a bit of a fascination for Dorne
and it's probably one of my biggest disappointments in the show that
it hasn't been used better. I think the episode did a good job as
well in setting up a lot of very key things for the rest of the
season, so it did its job perfectly for me.
And
what do you predict for your favourite character this year?
Well,
given that my favourite characters were Stannis and Oberyn...not too
much. Of course, there is always the possibility that Stephen
Dillane's comments on GoT were all a bit of a smokescreen and we
discover that Brienne showed Stannis some mercy so that he can ride
to a heroic rescue at some point - not holding my breath, mind you.
Defeated
by Ramsay Bolton, beheaded by Brienne of Tarth. What are you going to
do next?
I'll
probably spend a while reminding Robert and Renly that I outlived
both of them, then set up the Night Lands branch of the Westerosi
Grammar Police.
Did
the Pickled children greet you in the afterlife?
Yeah...trust
me that doesn't get any less creepy with time. I kept trying to get
rid of them, but the Dragonstone refuse collectors weren't as
compliant as I hoped.
Is
Shireen crispy yet still adorable?
Shireen
and I are patching things up, and a lot of the burn marks have kind
of turned into scales, so they don't look as weird as you might
think.
Did
Selyse fashion a neck brace from what was left of that rope?
I'm
actually feeling a new level of...vague friendliness towards Selyse.
I mean, she is now the most attractive woman I've 'known' after
spending so long in second place.
Have
you met up with
Robert
and Renly yet? If so, what was that like? Awkward?
It
was a bit awkward to start with, Renly still seems to hold something
of a grudge but he'll get over it once he accepts the justice of what
happened to him. Robert...he's pretty much drunk permanently, so no
change there.
Who
do you think will survive or sacrifice themselves somehow?
If
Mel sacrifices herself and turns up here WITH the necklace, that
wouldn't be so bad I suppose.
